WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: THIS BOUDOIR ENSEMBLE IS JUST PEACHY | Life as Fine Art by Cate Scaglione

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY BY CATE SCAGLIONE, OWNER AND PHOTOGRAPHER OF LIFE AS FINE ART

I just love beautiful, airy boudoir sessions.

There is an element of romance and femininity that makes these sessions irresistable.

Peach is a color that looks great on almost anyone. In great, dreamy afternoon light, these monochromatic tones blend with the skin and make the woman's features the center of attention.

Eyes, hair, lips are the star of the show, expertly applied by my styling team, Makeup Artistry by Miranda Richards. The elegantly accessorized wardrobe adds just a touch of posh. These gorgeous pieces would make a dream session -- for ME and the client!

Some new pieces by La Perla in shades of peach have just been added to our wardrobe closet and I can't wait to style my next beautiful lady in them.

Until then, my dear.

xoxo, Cate

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: THEATRICAL COUTURE ENSEMBLES | LIFE AS FINE ART

LET'S PLAY PRETEND...

I love doing creative sessions that push things beyond the expected.

For a bold, dramatic type of client, a wardrobe like this daring collection could make an interesting, theatrical debut. Staging it in a rather unexpected manner, I feel this wardrobe could be amazing featured in an outdoor setting, perhaps even on the cobbled streets of NYC's Meatpacking District. With a very couture hair and makeup look, designed by Makeup Artistry by Miranda Richards. I could also envision this inside a museum, with high ceilings and dramatic light streaming in.

As a boudoir photographer, I love to style and shoot fashion-inspired sessions, making you feel as fit to be in any glossy magazine as you would in one of my couture-styled albums

Working together with me and my collaborative team, you can let your imagination run wild! Stylized sessions is one of the many ways that we create a different, unique choice for women looking to explore their "Etoile". When it comes to NYC and NJ boudoir photography, we will make it happen and exceed your expectations

GRECIAN WARDROBE LOOKS | LIFE AS FINE ART BLOG

IT'S WARDROBE WEDNESDAY...
curated by AIBP & LIFE AS FINE ART by CATE SCAGLIONE | NYC and NJ BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

An increasingly popular wardrobe look requested by my boudoir and Dreamworld portrait session clients is the "Grecian Goddess".  I often love to shoot in dreamy light and surreal settings. This classically-inspired, other-worldly look is a perfect wardrobe choice for my stylized session. Beautiful for both the fair-haired and brunette goddesses, it's elegant, beautiful, and upscale.

With a focus on whites, touches of gold and sheer fabrics, it is demure and alluring all at once.

I carry several silky, Grecian-inspired, and gold pieces to adorn your shoot, or you may bring your own. With expert styling by one of my truly talented hair and makeup artists, you'll see yourself as if in another world. To learn more about my Dreamworld sessions, or an Etoile Boudoir session, just reach out... I'll be waiting for you.

Cate

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY: ANTIQUE INSPIRED BOUDOIR ENSEMBLES

"We are all tied to our destiny and there is no way we can liberate ourselves."

...Sometimes I think I was born in another era. Or maybe, I wish I was!

When it comes to styling boudoir sessions, there is nothing I love more than to take a step back in time and revisit that luxe glamour of the 1940's. From the dresses to the undergarments, it was all so understated and yet so sophisticated. From my experience as a NYC and NJ boudoir photographer, women of all ages, body types and spirit look fantastic in this styling.

"Glamorous dresses were a luxury during most of the 1940s; times were hard due to world events. Dress manufacturers were allowed a specific amount of fabric and could not keep up with dress demand. As a result, women began to fashion their own style from the materials available to them, and took it upon themselves to create luxury out of minimal options. The results of their work were the fabulous and chic dresses of the 1940s."  (...Read more here).

Watching old movies from this era, it's clear to see the leading ladies of 1940s Hollywood had sharp tongues, a quick wit and killer style created all on their own. Yes, perhaps it was by the sign of the times, but the soft hues, lacy details and luxe comfort almost makes me think the women of that time created more for themselves than they did for their  men. I love that. It was a post-suffrage era that still echoed those rally cries of empowerment, but with an infusion of femininity and beauty, enjoyed just for her own sake. (The men at their feet? Simply a bonus.)

You'd be surprised to know that during my pre-session consultations, a large majority of my boudoir clients tell me they are booking their sessions more for their own enjoyment than their partner's. Much like the leading ladies of another time, we all know we deserve it.

THE FIVE BEAUTY APPS YOU MUST HAVE, Curated by Elle Magazine

I knew my iPhone would make my life easier, but I never imagined it could make me feel more glamorous. I don't know about you, but I have become obsessed with finding iPhone apps that simplify every aspect of my life, from grocery delivery to organizers, to workout apps. Then I read Elle Magazine and find this little gem...

5 BEAUTY APPS TO TRY

From virtually trying on makeup to ordering a hairstylist to your doorstep, these are the best beauty apps to download now.  By Lauren Fisher

1. L'Oreal Makeup Genius
L'Oreal's new app is a game-changer for any beauty lover. Gone are the days of visiting drugstores or makeup counters to try on countless smudges of different shades—this app has a real-time camera that allows you to virtually try on any beauty product or shade. The camera acts as a mirror and allows you to try on different beauty looks, showing the makeup on your face as you move. With this app you can also try different makeup looks from the red carpet, seen on celebs like Lupita Nyong'o or Jennifer Lopez.

2. Beautified
Co-founded by stylish DJ Hannah Bronfman, Beautified is an app that allows you to find and book same-day beauty services—including last minute massages, manicures, pedicures, haircuts, blowouts, facials, waxes and makeup from approved salons. Perfect for procrastinators, Beautified only allows booking for up to 48 hours in advance for services and is available in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

3. Sephora To Go
Sephora's beauty app is big on content—offering inspiration, hair and makeup how-to's and shopping. Itacts as a beauty-only "Instagram" for users seeking inspiration, tutorials or product reviews. You can sift through other beauty lovers' posts and findings as well as upload your own. The app also features Sephora TV—how-to videos for hair, beauty, nails and more. Sephora fanatics can also log-in to the Beauty Insider to get rewards and points as well as receive mobile coupons. If you can spend hours shopping in Sephora, you'll fall in love with this app at first click.

4. Lifebooker
The Groupon of Beauty. Lifebooker finds the best beauty deals in your area ranging from highlights to Botox to mani-pedis and more. The app is available on your smartphone or on the desktop version. 30% off beauty treatments and deals for under $20? Sign us up.

5. Glamsquad
Ordering a blowout or updo is now just as easy as ordering dinner. Glamsquad allows you to book a hair stylist to your front door—at work or at home—to provide a blowout, braided hairstyle from their look book or an updo. Get an appointment hours or days in advance. Coming soon on Glamsquad: makeup artists as well as other city offerings (the app is currently only available for New Yorkers to use).
